Juokslahti school

Juokslahti school is located in the northeastern part of Jämsä, close to the highway nr 9 between Jyväskylä and Tampere. The school is surrounded by beautiful open fields, with Lake Juoksjärvi in the middle, and also by rugged hills with thick forests. Lake Päijänne is about a kilometre away, and the nearest population centres are Jämsä and Jämsänkoski.

The village of Juokslahti has had its own school since 1891. The current school was built in the early 1950s and the building and the yard area were renovated in 1997. During the renovation the school also got club premises and a gym, which have been equipped by the village council and the local sports club, Juokslahden Tempaus.

Our school has grades 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 of basic education. In semesters 2002-2003 and 2004-2005 the school has had a pre-school group as well, which we are aiming to turn permanent.

Our teaching facilities and equipments are in excellent condition. In addition to those, we have, our own cooking kitchen and a spacious dining hall. Right next to the school building is the Jämsä branch library and family day care centre, Hulivili.

The school really is the centre of action in the village, with lots of activity almost every night.

Jämsässä on suuri hyppyrimäki, joka tosin on nykyään näkötorni.
There is a very tall ski jump tower in Jämsä. Nowadays it is used as a viewing tower.

Jämsässä on laskettelukeskus nimeltään Himos. Siellä voi laskettelun lisäksi vaikkapa hiihtää tai ajella moottorikelkalla.
There is a ski centre , Himos in Jämsä. There visitors can downhill ski, crosscountry ski, snowmobile…

Jämsän alueella on kaksi isoa paperitehdasta. Täällä sijaitsee myös lentokonetehdas, jossa on koottu armeijan Hornet-hävittäjät.
In the Jämsä area there are two big papermills. Also a plane factory that builds Hornet fighterplanes is situated in Jämsä.
