SLOVENIA

Triglav - The highest mountain Slovenia is a relatively small country in area, half the size of Switzerland for example, tucked into a mountainous corner between Austria, Italy, Hungary, Croatia, and the Adriatic Sea. Slovenia was a part of Yugoslavia when in the year 1991 declared its independence. Slovenia is embraced by the majestic Alps with their glacial valleys, rivers, and lakes, plenty of forests, mysterious karst caves and last but not least the warm Adriatic. Just a step away you can admire beautiful vineyards and miraculous taste of Slovene wines.

The contrast of Slovenia's landscape and its diversity lies all within the country's 20,256 square kilometers. About fifty kilometers from the capital, Ljubljana, are the Julian Alps, Piran where the highest mountain Triglav shines in all its beauty. Other major cities are Maribor, Celje and Koper, the port of Slovenia.

Slovenia's population of two million is an integrated society. Nearly 90 percent are Slovene and about 10 percent are Italian, Hungarian, or nationalities from the former Yugoslav republics. Most Slovenes speak English, German, or Italian as their second language.

SLADKI VRH

Sladki Vrh Sladki Vrh is a pleasant and peaceful settlement in the north of Slovenia situated by the river Mura, which is the natural border between Slovenia and Austria. The river is also well known by its Float on Mura which can take you across the river to Austria.
The number of inhabitants in this area reaches over 1000. Maribor, the second biggest city in Slovenia is 25 km away while the major crossing border Sentilj is only 7 km away from Sladki Vrh.

BORDER CO-OPERATION

Since the membership in the E.U. our School has been co-operating with five neighbouring schools in Austria, having meetings on several sports and cultural occasions. Together we organize the days of Natural Science and implement the programme for the 10-year-old students who participate on three-day gathering in Graz, while the first and second class spend busy morning in the classrooms in Slovenia as well as in Austria. Co-operation is therefore welcome and significant on behalf of learning foreign languages as well as making new friendships between the students and headmasters.
